The Priests in Termini Imerese who administered the Sacrament of Baptism in the Baptistery at San Nicola Bari

250px-Frejus_Cathedral_Baptistery

The interior of the round baptistery at San Nicola Bari might have had a layout similar to that seen above in the baptistery at the Cathedral of Frejus.

During the years 1542-1548, the following 42 priests administered the Sacrament of Baptism at the Baptistery at San Nicola Bari. Each of these priests was associated with one of the many churches (c. 20) in use in Termini-Imerese at the time, some of which may have been built for specific guilds or confraternities. Those names of those priests who served as godfathers on occasion are marked with an asterisk.

*Gaspano Criscione: The family members of Father Crisciuni were Albanians, who came over to Italy with Prince Scandbeg in the late 14th Century at the invitation of the King of Naples to squash a rebellion of his Barons. The name Crixuj was one of the original form of the spellings which was Latinized into Crisciuni (crixunj). In the late 17th Century the name was again changed, this time to Criscione. [This information from Arthur Criscione].
